Mark 8:34-38

And calling the crowd to him with his disciples,
he said to them, "If anyone would come after me,
let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow
me.  For whoever would save his life will
lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the
gospel's will save it.  For what does it profit a man
to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?  For
what can a man give in return for his soul?  For
whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this
adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the
Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the
Glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Psalm 1:6

but the way of the wicked will perish.

Mark 7:14-16

And he called the people to him again and said to
them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand:  There
is nothing outside a person that by going into him can
defile him, but the things that come out of a person
are what defile him."

An interesting note from my Bible:  Jesus clarifies that what does indeed defile is not what enters from the outside, but rather what lurks in the hearts of fallen people.

Genesis 18:17-19

The Lord said,
"Shall I hid from Abraham what I am about to do,
seeing that Abraham shall surely befcome a great
and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth
shall be blessed in him?  For I have chosen him,
that he may command his children and his house-
hold after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing
righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring
to Abraham what he has promised him."

Psalm 148

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his hosts!

Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens!

Let them praise the name of the Lord!
For he commanded them and they were created.
And he established them forever and ever;
he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and mist,
stomry wind fulfilling his word!

Mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars!
Beasts and all livestock,
creeping things and flying birds!

Kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and rulers of all the earth!
Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty is above earth and heaven.
He has raised up a horn for his people,
praise for all his saints,
for the people of Israel who are near to him.
Praise the Lord!

Genesis 15:5-6

And [God] brought [Abraham] outside and said, "Look toward

Genesis 12:1-3

Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go from
your country and your kindred and your father's
house to the land that I will show you.  And
I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless
you and make your name great, so that you will be a
blessing, I will bless those who bless you, and him
who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the
families of the earth shall be blessed.

The notes of my Lutheran Study Bible say the following about these verses:  Not merely a promise of temporal blessings, but the promise of the Gospel that, in Christ Jesus--Abraham's Seed--people of all nations and times will have the eternal blessing of God's forgiveness.  There is no greater blessing than that "in Christ God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them."

Mark 4:30-32

And he said, "With what can we compare the
kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for
it?  It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when
sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on
earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes
larger than all the garden plants and puts out large
branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests
in it's shade."

Psalm 104:33-34

Mark 2:17

And when Jesus heard
it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no
need of a physician, but those who are sick.  I came
not to call the righteous, but sinners."

Psalm 19:7-9

The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.

New format, New year

As the New Year dawns, I've decided to change up the format of this blog. I thought it would be fun to do something new every year--other than just taking pictures. Of course that was fun, but everyone needs something fresh and new with the bringing of a new year, right?

So this year on my 365 blog, I've decided to record Bible Verses. I've begun a Read-the-Bible-in-a-year program, and I know there's going to be verses I want to remember. What better than to record them here, on my blog, and share them with you?

Not only recording Bible verses, but this blog will also be an encouragement for me to keep up on my Bible reading.

So join me on this journey through God's Word, each day this year.
